Why now is the moment to visit Cambodia
Cambodia is having a moment. Forty years on from the end of the Khmer Rouge reign of terror, this country is undergoing momentous change driven by the vigour and energy of its young population (65% of which is under 30). Once relegated to a mere stopover (just long enough to see the world’s largest religious monument Angkor Wat), before moving onto beaches of Thailand or jungles of Vietnam, now Cambodia is the destination rather than the sideshow. Thanks to a hat trick of new head-turning five-star openings, southern Cambodia is attracting not only adventurers and intrepid explorers but also those seeking respite from temple fatigue.
